about

The 7 song E.P is titled "Remote Control". The entire project was recorded remotely during the Pandemic. This project takes you on a trip down memory lane with classic vibes of ATCQ, Slum Village, De La Soul & Black Moon.

All production handled by Chicago veteran producer Coolout Chris credits: (ED.OG, Verbal Kent, Earatik Statik ,The Prime meridian & others). All lyrics handled by SamIamthemc. Sam's a nationally acclaimed freestyle M.C and battle rapper. He's won major competitions such as B.E.T Freestyle Friday 106 & Park Champion/ Hall of Famer (2009), Finalist for MTV World Rap Battle (2009) Rhymespitters Champion (2007) & Scribble Jam L.A Prelims runner up and many more.

On "Remote Control" Sam and Coolout take you on boom bap journey with hard hitting beats, clever word play and philosophical punch lines.

The intro "Remote Control" slaps with tribal like drums that are sure to give you a noise pollution ticket. Sam weaves through the intro with a brief description of how the E.P came about. He drops witty word play like "rappers I bury them, words I Merriam like Webster".

Songs like the lead single "Gutter" and "Boom" certify that Sam & Coolout mean business when it comes to delivering quality golden age Hip-Hop. "Gutter" Bangs through your speakers with a deep bass line and dope chopped samples, crafted by Coolout. Sam displays his revered battle techniques on "Boom" with lines like ,"talk out the side of your mouth.... tap your mandible."

On the song "In The Park" Coolout creates the perfect sound bed for Sam to give an ode to Hip-Hop by honoring past and present pioneers with a track infused with beat boxing and scratching.

"Frequency" is a bonafide radio hit. This track gives you instant vibes of A Tribe Called Quest's "Bonita Applebum" and "Electric Relaxation". Sam glides well over the Rhodes based neo soul vibe soundscape. On "Frequency" Sam pens the perfect song for the ladies, with lines like "you'd be wanted for murder if looks can kill, I got one eye on you like Bushwick Bill".

Sam & Coolout hit the pavement running with the politically charged "I Ain't Talkin' Bout It". On this song Sam tackles violence, depression, and a wide range of topics. "I Ain't Talking Bout It' delivers some thought provoking questions and personal assessments. Sam drops 5 line gems in-between a catchy hook over another properly crafted beat by Coolout. Definite banger!

Sam & Coolout wrap up the E.P with "A Story". Continuing the tradition of storytelling pioneered by Slick Rick, Sam tells a story about a kid named Mike who discovers his love for rapping after his mom buys him his first notebook. Sam intricately weaves through Mike's life from Kindergarten to adult hood with some interesting bumps in the road.

All in all "Remote Control" is a refreshing take on Golden Era Hip-Hop when bars and beats really meant something.
